3 Tips for Creating an Undercover BBQ Area

3 Tips for Creating an Undercover BBQ Area

Are you a lover of outdoor cooking? Are you thinking about creating your own dedicated outdoor kitchen or outdoor BBQ space?

One of our top tips for starting you off is to remember which country you live in! If you want to maximise your investment you’ll want to make sure you think about shelter for your outdoor kitchen or BBQ area.

When it comes to creating an undercover BBQ area, there are a few things to think about. To make sure you have everything covered, here are a few tips.

Venting

Regardless of what type of cooking equipment you opt for, be it a wood-fired pizza oven, gas BBQ, or Argentinian grill, you’ll want to be sure that you have proper ventilation. The last thing you want is smoke to go back into your house or get trapped in the area.

Adding a vent to your outdoor kitchen area will help with the ventilation.

Equally, choosing the right style of enclosure and wind flow will mitigate smoke build-up!

With a louvred roof on a metal pergola, you can control the wind and, ultimately, smoke flow, which is, in part, what makes them so popular for UK outdoor kitchens.

Watch Out for Fire Hazards

Your outdoor BBQ area needs to be clear of fire hazards. Possible fire hazards could include a lack of ventilation, or having a grill too close to furniture or greenery.

The heat generated from a grill is easily enough to crack double glazing (we’ve done it ourselves!) so you’ll need to think about the area, whats in it and what is susceptible to intense heat and flame.

Loss of Sun on Sunny Days

You’ll want to take into account where the sun shines when creating the undercover area. You don’t want to block part of your home from the sun if you love the natural light you get inside on a sunny day.

Often in the UK we are so fixated on keeping the bad weather out we don’t think about how we want to let the good weather in!

UK Weather Won’t Dictate Your Cooking Schedule

How awful is it that the weather can sometimes dictate how and where you cook? With an undercover BBQ area, you won’t have to worry about what happens on a rainy day – you’re covered! Whether it’s extremely sunny or dumping rain, you can still BBQ.When your kitchen area is covered, you don’t need to worry about your food or leaving something outside for a second when you go inside.

Our favourite option when it comes to outdoor shelters are the metal louvered roof pergolas. We love the fact they are so versatile and suit the UK weather come rain or shine as well as the modern sleek look that can frame and zone an outdoor kitchen area so perfectly,
